About this deal

The most enjoyable aspect of this book for me were Healy's illustrations, which were really charming. The interplay between the characters reveals their personality issues and paints a portrait of a very dysfunctional relationship. We think instead Mr Healy has crafted a predatory character camouflaged in an otherwise wistful urban landscape. Recommended for those who like package deliveries, drunken nights and friendly parents of childhood friends.

The art style works well for the story being told, and Healy's pacing moves things along without making things feel rushed.I enjoyed Luke Healy's Americana, a memoir of Luke taking his Irish self to the West Coast of the US to complete an arduous hike. It isn’t hard at all to imagine such frenemies as the stars of some future film or TV series, though personally I would be quite content if Healy would only give them another outing between hard covers.

A great story of friendship, or rather, nostalgia for a bygone friendship, a fantasy, you might even say.If you are a vulnerable person, you hang on to that someone all the more tightly, certain that this someone will be there for you when others haven't. Hotjar sets this cookie to know whether a user is included in the data sampling defined by the site's pageview limit. But I never found myself much caring about what happened to anyone - and I particularly didn't care for the higher concepts Luke Healy seemed determined to introduce. There were many, many things to unpack, and while they were quite interesting, I don't feel we got the time or attention needed to get into them. As Frank moves in with Giorgio to help him recover, he begins to suspect that the perfect life Giorgio has been sharing online may be nothing more than a web of lies and scams.

But perhaps that is more accurate to a certain experience of life, where one is saying one thing and feeling so, so much of another thing. A dull and dreary tale about a gay man getting pulled into the trauma and drama of his childhood friend, another gay man. But it’s a tender, intimate story, too, one in which long-repressed love and competitiveness bubble up as if from nowhere. It’s an interesting exploration of meta artifice and narrative voice - where does the truth lie in a novel?

The simplicity of the artwork worked really well with the uncomplicated dialogue, and at times it worked excellently as a combo to bring forth more complex emotions. A funny, bittersweet story about Frank, a stand-up comedian with anxiety, who gets caught up in taking care of an estranged friend, Giorgio, while he recovers after being hit by a bus. Pretty brutal Goodreads average here for what I deem well done comics, sort of minimal, with barely tolerable main characters who are essentially conning each other in different ways. A lot of the story made me feel uncomfortable, which isn't a bad thing in a story about a toxic relationship and dealing with mental health issues.Healy’s pilgrimage through America is also a journey into his own mind, soundtracked by blistered footsteps and breathless huffs, and told with winning honesty. From Nobel Laureates Samuel Beckett and Harold Pinter to theatre greats Tom Stoppard and Alan Bennett to rising stars Polly Stenham and Florian Zeller, Faber Drama presents the very best theatre has to offer. I liked the art and the main character a lot and felt like they were able to stand up for themselves in the end.
