About this deal

Connemara Peated Single Malt Irish Whiskey captures the beauty of this region while reviving its traditions. This Whiskey has been created to show off the traditional use of turf (peat) as a drying method in the Connemara region of Ireland. The Distillers Edition is crafted by aging small batches of Connemara in Oloroso sherry casks to bring about a complex composition of peat, malt, honey, wood, and silky smoothness typical of a much older whiskey. I've been eyeing this for a while as I love Irish whiskey and I love peated Islays, so this seemed like a perfect concept, though having read a number of reviews on here I had lowered my expectations. Connemara Peated Single Malt has won more Gold Medals in the last decade than any other Irish Whiskey!

They could've acknowledged that times had changed, and that fate had dealt them more than their share of bad breaks. Silky smooth and honey sweet start, malts and fruits giving way to the intensifying full bodied peat.Once a bottle has been engraved the cut glass is then infilled with a special decorative silver paste. Inspired by the 18th century art of drying malting barley over peat fires, Connemara® possesses a distinct peaty flavour and aroma, instilling a delicate smokiness and smooth, sweet taste. Nose Well-smoked and peated, heather freshness and floral notes with a honeyed sweetness and a little wood. I can only concur with other reviews , dreadful whisky I fail to see how anybody with any discernible pallet could like this whisky. Uniquely west of Ireland taste owing the malted barley being roasted over the turf that comes out of the peat bogs in Ireland.

But despite the nod to the Islays, for me this is very much first and foremost an Irish whiskey (with some peat), rather than being like a true Islay whisky that happens to have been made in Ireland. Vibrant aromas of creme brulee, singed flowers, dense spices, and Provence herb soap follow through on a round, supple entry to dryish medium-full body with layers of praline, vanilla bean, and exotic peppercorns. For centuries local distillers created a unique style of whiskey by drying malted barley over peat fires giving it a distinctive smoky taste. As the oldest licensed distillery of its kind in Ireland, the Kilbeggan Distilling Company has seen its share of trials and triumphs. We have detected that you appear to be using a browser version that is no longer receiving technology updates. Quite well balanced, somewhat smooth but ultimately it struggles to find its place as a favourite in my collection. My girlfriend said she could smell it across the table and found it a bit overpowering but it is indeed as intended.

Unique among Irish whiskeys, Connemara is the only Irish Peated Single Malt Whiskey widely available today. There’s the familiar sweet and freshness I’ve found in many good Irish malts, coupled with the peat, brine and smoke that are surprisingly complimentary. Henry – It has a unique quality of peat that reminds me of soot and green olives, which almost reminded me of the Cragganmore 12 year. They would never let it's smokestack be reduced to a monument, no matter what the world threw at them.A rather tasty and heavilly peated Irish Single Malt, ideal for fans of Islay and West coast Scottish whis. I found it differing quite a bit from my original notes, but decided to leave both notes mixed in together. Managing Director of Cooley Distillery, David Hynes and chairman John Teeling resurrected the traditional Irish custom of drying the malted barley over peat fires with this peated single malt.
